There are basically 6 types of yoga. After understanding each one of them, you can decide which one you should choose.

Hatha Yoga

This is a gentle type of yoga which is relatively slow in pace and is good for beginners. It helps in uniting the mind, body, and soul.

Ashtanga Yoga

The word Ashtanga is formed by uniting two words “Ashta” which means eight and “Anga” which means “limbs”. This is an intense form of yoga has fast moving asanas. This yoga style has a progressive sequence of asanas which can be quite physically challenging. This yoga form will help you improve your stamina and strength and will also bring flexibility to the body.

Power Yoga

Power yoga is basically based on Ashtanga Yoga. However, it is not required to follow the exact progressive sequence as like in Ashtanga Yoga. But, it does have a series of poses that need to be practiced non-stopped.

Iyengar Yoga

Based on the teachings of B.K.S Iyengar this yoga concentrates on the right form and alignment of the body. Unlike Ashtanga Yoga, here the focus is made on holding a single pose for a long duration rather than moving progressively from one pose to other. Props like blocks and straps are used in Iyengar Yoga to help the body align in various poses.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa means movements between yoga poses usually accompanies by regular breathing. This is another fast-paced yoga form that emphasizes breathing. Starting with sun salutations, the practice moves towards intense stretching.

Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is more famous as “HOT YOGA” and is usually practiced in a room with around 105 degrees temperature and 40% humidity. Usually, 26 sequential yoga poses are practiced in this yoga style. The hot room temperature helps in losing muscles. Bikram Yoga also helps in cleansing toxins from the body as you sweat a lot during the session.
